How to apply for a research degree

There are a number of steps involved in applying for a research degree. You should read all the information provided below BEFORE completing an application form.

Please note: You should allow at least three months to complete the application process. Ideally, you should begin working on your application three to six months before it is due.

The closing date for Applications for Masters (Hons), Professional Doctorates and PhD's to commence in Autumn 2009 are due by 31 October 2008 (applications submitted after this date will not be considered).

The closing date for Applications for PhD's to commence in Spring 2009 are due by 29 May 2009.

In addition to the application form, applicants must complete and submit the Supplementary Form (pdf, 26kb) by the due date.

Your first step in the application process is to contact the Faculty to obtain an information pack (below). You should then contact the Faculty to discuss the program you wish to enter, your proposed research and supervisory arrangements. Please note it is important for candidates to have supervisory arrangements in place before the application is submitted.

Application Form

The application form can be downloaded from the University Graduate School website: Application Form.

Important

  • Applications must be submitted to the University Graduate School by the due date
  • Applicants must complete the Supplementary Form and submit it to the Faculty by the due date
  • Please note: applications must be fully completed when submitted, incomplete applications will not be considered.

Research Proposal

As part of the application process you are required to write and submit a research proposal, detailing the research you wish to undertake. This should be undertaken in consultation with your potential supervisor.
