Faculty strengths

Why study nursing, midwifery, health or health services management at UTS rather than at another university? Here are six deciding reasons for choosing UTS.

Practice-based courses

There is a strong practical focus to all of our courses. Our undergraduate courses involve clinical placements from first semester. Students may gain experience in operating theatres, paediatric units, rural areas, maternity wards or any number of other settings. Our postgraduate courses are clinically relevant and evidence-based, and our research students are actively involved in producing knowledge for the improvement of professional practice.

Industry reputation

Many of our students choose UTS because nurses and midwives recommend our courses. The Faculty is renowned within the health care industry for offering degrees with an ideal mix of practice and theory and for the quality of our teaching staff. Our courses are industry-backed and supported by area health services, government and health care agencies.

Variety and choice

UTS: Health offers the only stand-alone Bachelor of Midwifery in NSW, providing an option that no other university in the state does. Our Bachelor of Nursing students gain clinical experience in a variety of settings plus they get to choose from a range of electives in third year (subject to availability), as well as having the option to do a rural placement. Our postgraduate students can choose from 15 specialist graduate certificates, 4 graduate diplomas, 6 masters programs and 4 doctorates.

State-of-the-art facilities

Modern clinical labs at both our Kuring-gai and City campuses simulate hospital wards, allowing students to prepare for real life clinical experiences. Our practice labs are equipped with life-like electronic manikins, integrating medical technology into the teaching environment. Our state-of-the-art simulation labs at each campus house the high-fidelity SimManTM and the latest in simulation technologies.
